4 What is conflict? The struggle between two people or opposing forces in literature. The struggle between two people or opposing forces in literature. The plot is formed around the conflict of the story. The plot is formed around the conflict of the story.

5 Different types of conflict that exist within literature: Character vs. Character- a conflict that exists between two characters in a story. This conflict will be between the protagonist (hero) and your antagonist (villain).

7 Character vs. self- a struggle that takes place within the character. Character vs. self- a struggle that takes place within the character. This is also referred to as an INTERNAL CONFLICT. 12 Character vs. Society- often times in literature our main character or protagonist will not only struggle solely with another character, but the prejudices, discrimination, and beliefs of a whole society. 14 Character vs. the supernatural- Sometimes in literature our main character is pinned against forces that are beyond our worldly understanding and control.
