The celebration of the Church throughout the year Also known as the Church’s Calendar Advent 4 weeks that precede Christmas The seasons that we prepare for the coming of the Messiah Ends on Christmas Eve

3 Christmas Season to celebrate the early life of Jesus
Starts December 25th and continues until the 1st Sunday after January 6th The first Sunday after Jan. 6th is the feast of the Baptism of the Lord in the River Jordan by John the Baptist Important Days/Events Mary, Mother of God (Jan. 1)

4 Ordinary Time A season where we reflect on Jesus' life, preaching, and messages. Only season to be broken into two parts 1st part From after Jesus’ Baptism to Ash Wednesday 2nd Part From Pentecost Sunday to Christ the King Sunday

5 Lent Season to help us prepare for Jesus’ Resurrection
Lasts for 40 days From Ash Wednesday to Palm Sunday A season of prayer, almsgiving, and repentance Prayer: talking to God Almsgiving: giving to others; making sacrifices Repentance: asking for forgiveness

6 Holy Week It is the shortest of all seasons
Goes from Palm Sunday to Holy Saturday Important Days Holy Thursday Remembrance of Jesus’ Last Supper Good Friday Remembrance of Jesus’ Suffering and Death

7 Easter Starts with Easter Vigil and goes to Pentecost Sunday
Season for celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Important Dates 40 Days after Easter – Ascension Thursday 50 Days after Easter – Pentecost Sunday Known as the Birthday of the Church

Ordinary Time is the longest of the seasons Used in Regular Masses Green is symbol for: Everlasting life Hope

Used during Holy Days of Obligation that involve Mary and Jesus Ex. Immaculate Conception and the Ascension Used for important saints’ days that are designated by the Church All Saints Day Special saints that were not martyred Symbol for: New life, purity, joy, and innocence

12 Vestment Colors Purple Also known as Violet in the Church
It is used during two seasons Advent Lent Symbol for: Sorrow Repentance Penance Preparation

13 Vestment Colors Red Not used for the entirety of a particular season, but just on special days throughout the year Used on Pentecost, Palm Sunday and Good Friday Some Church may use them for Confirmation masses Used on the feasts days of martyrs designated by the Church Symbol for: Holy Spirit, suffering of the Lord, and martyrdom

14 Vestment Colors Pink Also known as Rose
Used during two days of masses for the year Gaudete Sunday (3rd Sunday of Advent) Laetare Sunday (4th Sunday of Lent)
