2 Pierre Bezier The anchor points can define a curve’s attributes. The curves are known as Bezier Curves. They are named after the French mathematician Pierre Bezier, who developed a method for defining curves automatically.

3 Anchor Point Types There are two types of anchor points: Smooth Points and Corner Points

4 Control Handle Tangent Lines

5 Each control handle extending from an anchor point controls only the portion of the curve of the line segment facing the control handle. 6 Convert Anchor Point Tool allows you to transform anchor points and control the direction of tangent lines. Short Cut – SHIFT C

7 Using the Convert Anchor Point tool you can change the direction of the curve by selecting the control handle and moving it in any direction.

8 While using the Convert Anchor Point tool you can eliminate the tangent lines completely by simply clicking on the anchor point!

9 Rules About Bezier Curves 1. The length and angle of the handles “anticipate” the curves that follow. 2. To ensure that the curve is smooth, place anchor points on either side of an arc, not in between. 3. The fewer the anchor points, the smoother the curve will look and the faster it will print. 4. Adjust a curve’s height and angle by dragging the direction points, or grab the curve itself to adjust the height.

10 Ways to Hinge Bezier Curves As You Draw 1. While you are click-dragging to draw a curve, press the Alt key to hinge the curve - pulling the handle in a new direction.

14 Class Exercise 1.Open new Print Document - Letter Size - 8.5’ x 11’ 2.Create 3 layers (Access layers panel with F7) 3.Access the Pen Tool and draw 3 open paths and 3 closed paths on each layer. 4.Make sure each Path has a different fill and different stroke. 5.Save as ‘name _ fill.ai’

16 To add an anchor point simply click on the area of a line segment you wish.

17 Delete Anchor Point Tool allows you to remove anchor points from a path.

18 To remove an anchor point simply click on the anchor point you wish.

19 Fill and Stroke Fill is the color that goes inside the path and the Stroke refers to the outline of the drawn object.

21 Eyedropper Tool allows you to copy appearance attributes from one object to another, including Stroke, Fill, Color, and Text attributes.

22 Two-In-One Eyedropper Tool has two modes: the sampling Eyedropper and the applying Eyedropper.

23 Two-In-One Eyedropper Tool to copy attributes from one object to another, select the Eyedropper and position it over an unselected object. The Eyedropper is sampling mode (angles down to the left). Click the object to pick up the attributes. Now position the Eyedropper over the unselected object you wish to apply the attributes you just sampled, and hold down the Option key. The Eyedropper will switch to applying mode (angles downward to the right and looks full). Click the object to apply the attributes.

24 Sampling from the Desktop To sample attributes from the desktop, first select the objects you want to change. Then select the Eyedropper tool, click anywhere on your document and hold the mouse button down while you move your cursor over the desktop object you want to sample.
