2 Basic Facts  A person who practices Christianity is called a Christian.  The Holy Book for Christians is called the Bible and it is broken into the Old Testament and the New Testament.

3 This chart shows how frequently the Old Testament is cited in the New Testament.

4 Basic Facts  The Old Testament tells the story of God’s promises to the Israelites or the Jewish nation. The New Testament, Christians believe, is a fulfillment of all of God’s promises.

5 Basic Beliefs:  Christians believe that Jesus is the son of God and the only way to Heaven is through him.  Christians believe Jesus was crucified (hung on a cross) and then resurrected (rose from the dead) three days later.  Christians believe that Jesus’ death offers believers forgiveness of sins.

7 Basic Celebrations  Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus.  Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus.

8 Basic Celebrations  Baptism is an outward symbol to show that the Christian is now a believer and has been given a ‘new life’ through Christ.  Communion is also a symbol that encourages believers to remember that Christ’s body was broken for them and that he shed his blood for them.
