1 How the mentoring process worked Visiting working places was enlightening Reflecting in blogs helped to internalize what we learned Atmosphere was good for talking (open, free) Positive feelings are important on mentoring process, feeling that you are welcome Individual backgrounds and openess were good Group was highly motivated and tasks were done well We reached more most of our goal, process was planned well, enough goals, but not too much Process was quite long: there are good sides and bad sides in that The group was small enough so were learned about each other (beginning of trust) Time was short, so there were enough “scripted” meetings I hope that the mentees did get familiar about different kind of working contexts and how the theories of Edutool/LET studies can be used in these contexts o I hope that we all learned more how innovative learning environments can support development of expertise

2 What I learn? Becoming an expert is never ending process How the expertise shown in ”real life”, working life, from theory to practice Motivation is needed in growing to expert Practicing of learning strategies Flexibility & simplisity Working collaboratively Educational systems in different countries Sessions have to be planned carefully Emotional atmosphere is important It is very important to know the mentees well enough (easy to talk about different kind of themes); feeling of trust! Good mentoring plan helps the mentors and also the mentees but be prepare to improvise! The mentoring meetings in creative environments also helps collaboration It is inspiring way to change thoughts and discuss about the mentoring themes

3 How to develop mentoring process Different kind of tasks for mentees More interaction, more often Different kind of interaction More sharing of experiences More intensive working is needed for growing as learners, experts Maybe some mentor-mentee collaboration in planning the process Not too much different kind of subjects to the process (if there is not too much time and meetings) Make sure that the themes of the meetings are useful to everybody Try to be present at the meetings :-)! (this is to me!)

4 How did my expertise develope Experiences and attitude are needed to act as an expert, don’t wait the moment you are ready as an expert To be an expert means that you can utilize what you have learned I learned that I already am expert in some fields Planning & organizing Every experience helps us to grow as experts See and seek the opportunities to develope your experice Developed the skills of learning instructor Developed the collaboration skills, especially how to be part in an international team Developed and confirmed my own expertise (or the journey to be an expert in learning science…) Increased the knowledge about different kind education structures (what is good and bad in these structures and critical examination of Finnish education structure…)
