Arts Organisation Dom Budhi Drum School

Drums Research Jazz – Jazz drumming is the art of playing percussion (predominantly the drum set, which includes a variety of drums and cymbals) in jazz styles ranging from 1910s- style Dixieland jazz to 1970s-era jazz-rock fusion and 1980s-era latin jazz. The techniques and instrumentation of this type of performance have evolved over several periods, influenced by jazz at large and the individual drummers within it. Stylistically, this aspect of performance was shaped by its starting place, New Orleans, as well as numerous other regions of the world, including other parts of the United States, the Caribbean, and Africa. Dubstep - Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in South London, England. Its overall sound has been described as "tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals". Dubstep rhythms are usually syncopated, and often shuffled or incorporating tuplets. The tempo is nearly always in the range of 138–142 beats per minute, with a clap or snare usually inserted every third beat in a bar.[10] In its early stages, dubstep was often more percussive, with more influences from 2 ‑ step drum patterns. A lot of producers were also experimenting with tribal drum samples

What you didEvidenceWhat you found out Researched local drumming school and interviewed the teacher - Written interview - Information on drumming - Youtube links to demo videos made by the teacher - Business card - how to set up a drum school successfully and how to advertise it effectively -The difference between drums beats for different styles of music - teaching techniques

Interview Why did you set up a drum school? – Because I wanted to share my skill and passion for drumming and hopefully pass it on to others. How did you set up your drum school? – I got the right equipment (drum kit) a place to teach, I advertised, created lesson plans and goals for my students, business plans (how to set up a business etc.) and created goals for myself as a teacher. How did you set up a drum school (did you need qualifications ect)? – I have my grade 8 drums certificate (rock school examining board) which helped students to understand my drumming skills, but I believe all you need is the right equipment and the right attitude to teach. How did you advertise? – I made business cards for session drumming at first but then I made posters to put up around my school and created a facebook page to also keep students up to date with lessons and things. But the newspaper article in the Doncaster Free Press really helped as well. What are your teaching techniques? – always be encouraging towards students and I always have a lesson plan for each of my students. I do demonstrate, but I always teach the least I can the best I can. Name the drumming styles you like the most - my favourite is Jazz triplet technique because they are easy to incorporate with other styles

Youtube Links Here are some links to video’s that the teacher posted on the internet a few years ago – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmrZmYZuZHk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aakLf2qzxCQ
