I am always happy to meet with you to discuss your child’s learning However we have a scheduled meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons so these days are difficult for us to meet with you. Unfortunately, during class time I can not always answer the phone calls as it is teaching time but you can choose to leave a message or contact the office if it is urgent. You are welcome to email me at: burgess.elyse.a@edumail.vic.gov.au Meetings and Phone Calls

Fruit snacks will continue this year, so please pack a piece of fruit/vegetable for your child to enjoy around 10:00am. Make sure your child brings a water bottle to school every day with water inside. We are a nut aware school as apposed to nut free school – just be aware if there are nut allergies in your child’s class. You are welcome to bring in individualised birthday treats to share for your child’s birthday. We are a waste wise school so we ask that students are sent with minimal packaging (if any) particularly on Mondays and Wednesdays. Fruit Snacks, Water Bottles & Waste Wise

As part of Heidelberg Primary Schools curriculum, students will participate in 6 reading, 6 writing & 6 maths lessons per week, as well as Integrated Studies, specialist classes and our student welfare ‘Bounce Back ’program. A copy of our timetable will be put up on our blog when it is finalised. Here is what we’re looking like so far! Classroom Timetable Our reading and maths sessions will be run as a whole – part – whole lesson Differentiated Curriculum based on the AusVELS standards

Will go home on a Monday and is due in on a Friday. Will consist of a reading, spelling and maths task to support the work that is done in the classroom. Home reading is designed to be easy so children can read independently. It also allows them to focus on their comprehension and reading fluency. They can always read another book after they have completed their reader. If your child is experiencing any anxiety over homework tasks please come and have a chat at any time Yellow Reading Logs Great to see some children already filling these in on their own. They will be checked weekly so make sure they are at school everyday. Homework

I very much appreciate your help in the classroom and are looking to recruit helpers in the coming weeks, once routines are established. Carol will be running a Classroom Helper Training for anyone interested. This will occur on - Tuesday 23 rd of February 9:00 – 10:40 - Friday 26 th of February 9:00 – 10:40 If you are classroom helping you may not necessarily work with your own child but may listen to others read independently, supervise a small group or work one on one with students. Unfortunately we can not have any younger children in with classroom helpers as they become too much of a distraction for our grade ones! Classroom Helpers

The room 9 blog address is http://hpsburgess.global2.vic.edu.au/ We are running classroom blogs this year as a way of linking home and school. They will be used to provide information and showcase student work as well as interacting through some fun questions and brain teasers. A sign up sheet will be sent home so that you can give me your details. Classroom Blogs

Students have been given their first opportunity to join the HPS choir last Thursday. Term 1 is all about ‘try before you buy’. Students can give it a go before committing in the first term. From term 2 onwards students need to make the commitment to choir and are expected to attend every time if this is something they would like to do. Choir

With only 4 and a half weeks to go, I am looking for helpers for the school fete - uur class will be running the Souvlaki section. On the day we will need volunteers to cook the BBQ, make and sell our delicious produce as well as some volunteers to prepare the produce prior to the day. This includes slicing up the tomato, lettuce and onion. Sam suggested having four people run the stall at a time on the day. Sam is also looking for people to bring a gazebo and an esky as we will also be selling drinks. A roster will be placed on the door shortly for you to fill in.

This year your child will be involved in events such as: -School Dance (Term 3) -Disco -Year 1 dinner (Term 3) -Book Fair (Term 3) -Cross Country We will provide you with more information on all of these events closer to the date. Special Events
