9. Dialogue: Happy: What do you think is out there, beyond our world? Grumpy: Nothing. Nothing at all. Happy: What about after we pass? Don’t you think there is another life? Grumpy: We know that everyone lives for about nine months. Some pass away at five or six months. One guy I know lived for nine and a half months. I hope I can grow to be that old. But after we pass, that’s all there is to life. Happy: Sometimes when it’s quiet, I can hear other voices. Grumpy: That’s just crosstalk on your CryPhone. Happy: No, if I turn off my CryPhone I can hear laughing and singing and noises. I can’t wait to see what happens after we pass. Sometimes I can feel someone else breathing. I want to meet Mother! Grumpy: What! You still believe in Mother?! At your age? I gave up that childishness when I was still young. My whole life, I’ve never felt her. If I can’t touch something with my hands it MUST NOT EXIST. Happy: I will understand Mother much better after I pass. Grumpy: No one has EVER come back after they pass. NO ONE! Happy: Whoa! I think it’s time to go! Goodbye… [passes outside the plastic sheet] CRIES loudly.

10. [10 minutes later] Grumpy: Oh no! She’s gone! She passed away at eight months! She was so young! (Sobbing) Happy: What’s the matter? Why are you crying? Grumpy: Who’s that? Happy: It’s me! Don’t you recognize my voice? Grumpy: I can hear you on my CryPhone but I can’t feel you. Did you pass away? Happy: I’m OK! I am on the outside. This place is HUGE! Grumpy: Yeah I know what you mean. Suddenly there’s all kinds of space here. Happy: No you have NO IDEA. People are ten or twenty times my size and it is bright and loud and a little cold! Grumpy: There’s not room in the whole world for people that big. Have you gone crazy? How do you know all this? Happy: I can SEE them. Grumpy: What do you mean, SEE?

11. Happy: Well, it’s hard to explain, but it’s like touching or hearing something but with your eyes. Grumpy: That can’t happen. Anyway. What do you “see?” Happy: I see lights! And colors! And things far away! Grumpy: What are lights? And what are things? Happy: Just come and see! Come and breathe the air! Grumpy: What’s “Air?” What do you mean, “breathe?” Can I just go out a little and try it? Happy: No, it doesn’t work that way. You have to be ALL IN or ALL OUT. I can’t really explain it; you just have to come ALL OUT here and experience it. Grumpy: I told you, I am too young to die! I want to live another month! Happy: There are people here on the outside that are really, REALLY old! More than 500 months old! Grumpy: Ohhhh nooooo! [scared, goes outside the sheet CRIES loudly.] Ohhh, wowww! [amazed]
