3 Jupiter has been known since very ancient times, so how did Jupiter get its name? While it had many names throughout history, the Roman empire had the greatest influence over a wide portion of modern society, so the names accorded to planets by the Romans still hold sway over astronomy. The Romans named the planet after their king of gods, Jupiter, who was also the god of the sky and of thunder. So they called it Jupiter because it was the largest object in the sky; therefore the most powerful and so therefore Jupiter. Distance away from the sun: Distance away from the sun: The distance Jupiter away from the sun is 778,500,000 km. That is very far if you start thinking About it. Structure of Jupiter’s surface Structure of Jupiter’s surface : There is no surface structure on Jupiter because it is mostly made up of liquids, that is why it is very different to earth-like

4 I do wonder how Jupiter was discovered and by whom, let’s find out!!! Well no one actually discovered Jupiter it was always visible to the naked eye in the night sky. NASA say that the planet was discovered by the Ancients or Romans, they themselves aren’t that sure. The Atmosphere of Jupiter The Atmosphere of Jupiter : The explanation for the colour of Jupiter's clouds is still something of a mystery. Although there are compounds in Jupiter's atmosphere that could account for the colours if the atmosphere were warmer, they should not be the colours that are observed at the very cold temperatures in the tops of Jupiter's clouds (about -150 degrees Celsius).

5 On Jupiter the temperature increases. Not far into the atmosphere the pressure is about ten times what it is here on Earth and the temperature is thought to be about 20 degrees C or average room temperature for Earth. The temperature is thought to be over 9,700 C. At the planet’s core scientists think that the temperatures could be as high as 35,500 C. How Many Moons does Jupiter have: How Many Moons does Jupiter have: Jupiter has at least 63 known moons. The largest four are called Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. These four moons are called the Galilean satellites because they were first seen in 1610 by the astronomer Galileo Galilei.
