2 Depending upon the geographical distribution and the structure, the computer network can be classified into the following types:- 1) LAN 2) MAN 3) WAN

3 1.LAN stands for Local Area Network. 2.LAN is a computer network located relatively near to each other. 3.Computers are connected by the means of high-speed cable or wireless link. 4.LAN is widely used to connect personal computers within limited distance of one another perhaps within the same building or office. 5.LAN may contain small or large number of computers connected to each other to share resources such as printers, files, and exchange information between each other. 6.Local Area Networks are composed of inexpensive networking and routing equipment.

4 1.MAN stands for Metropolitan Area Network. 2.MAN is a computer network that generally expands throughout a city such as cable TV network. 3.Computers are connected by the means of high-speed and high capacity optic cables. 4.MAN is used to connect the LANs and provide uplink to the WAN or internet. 5.MAN may contain small or large number of computers connected to a central ISP to share files, information, messages etc. 6.Metropolitan Area Networks are composed of expensive networking and routing equipment.

5 1.WAN stands for Wide Area Network 2.WAN is a computer network that covers a wide area which may span across provinces and even a whole country. 3.Computers are connected by the means of wireless medium. 4.WAN is widely used to provide connectivity to MANs and LANs. 5.WAN contain large number of computers connected to a ISP. 6.Wide Area Networks are also composed of expensive networking and routing equipment.
