1 Changed Paul Emphasizes Our Changed Nature As Christians Uses three areas of change that help us see ourselves differently We are changed from one to another This change sets us apart from the rest of the world It is necessary if we are to be useful to God that we understand this change We need to teach others about this change as well Who we were is no longer who we are! Romans 6:1-7:6

2 Association Changed By Death
Romans 6:1-14 It’s like we have a new identity Why should we be changed by death? So that we might be in the likeness of his resurrection Romans 6:5 Our body of sin is done away Romans 6:6 He is justified from sin Romans 6:7 We believe that we shall live with him Romans 6:8 Christ died once for sin, death has no more dominion over him Rom 6:9-11 Since we changed association by death, we should leave sin behind Colossians 3:5-6 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming.

3 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 4 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. 10 Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? Romans 7:1-6 Uses well known law regarding marriage to teach our bond to God Why be changed by marriage? That we might bring forth fruits unto God. Romans 7:4 Physical marriage is to produce fruit We serve in the newness of the spirit Romans 7:6

15 Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God.
