1 Habitat GIT Meeting October 14, 2015 Harvell Dam Removal Project – first blockage on the Appomattox River, Petersburg, VA provide access to 127 miles of spawning and rearing habitat for hickory shad, blueback herring, alewife, striped bass, sea lamprey, American eel and resident species

2 Heistand Sawmill Dam Removal Project – the first blockage on the Chiques Creek upstream from the confluence with the Susquehanna River; will provide access to 12.4 miles of spawning and rearing habitat

5 Bosher’s Fish Ladder Embrey Dam Removal 2006/2007 completed 36 projects

6 Targeted Approach Moving Forward 2015-2025 High Priority Dams (first blockages)

7 Management Approach 1: During the period 2011-2025, restore historical fish migratory routes by opening 1,000 additional stream miles, with restoration success indicated by the presence of Alewife, Blueback Herring, American Shad, Hickory Shad, American Eel and/or Brook Trout.

8 Management Approach 2: Document return of fish to opened stream reaches by establishing the presence or absence of target species at a select number of projects within the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

9 Management Approach 3: Use the Chesapeake Bay Fish Passage Tool that was completed by the workgroup to implement high priority dam removal and fish passage projects.
