Man from the South

Characterisation: The Man in the White Shirt By Rory

Quotes that Describe him "Just then I noticed a small oldish man walking briskly around the edge of the pool. He was immaculately dressed in a white suit and he walked very quickly with little bouncing strides, pushing himself high up on to his toes with each step. He had on a large creamy Panama hat, and he came bouncing along the side of the pool looking at the people and chairs." "I couldn't tell if the accent were Italian or Spanish but I felt fairly sure he was some sort of a South American.

Quotes that describe his actions "He was immaculately dressed in a white suit and he walked very quickly with little bouncing strides, pushing himself high up on to his toes with each step." "Quite ready" he said and he lifted the chopper up in the air and held it there about two feet above the boy's finger, ready to chop.

Dialogue that reveals things about his character "All right. Good. We make a bet, yes?" "Well, well, well" he said. "I do not understand. You say it lights but you will not bet. Den we forget it yes."

Characterisation: The American boy By Casey

Quotes that describe him: Confidant - He is not Afraid to ask for things he wants. “Are these chairs taken? mind if i sit down." he is also confidant that his lighter will strike perfectly 10 times in a row, he is even willing to put his little finger up as a bet to show he is confidence. “It never fails" “Sure it will work, it always works. well for me anyway." LOOKS - he is about 19 or 20 years old with a long freckled face and a rather sharp bird like nose. his chest was not very sunburnt and there were freckles there to, and a few wisps of red hair.

Quotes that show his actions: “Here let me give you a light" showing he is nice and friendly. “Sure ill bet you a buck" this is showing that the boy is not very rich and also is sensible on a stupid little bet about a lighter. “What do we do if i loose? do i just hold my finger out and you chop it off?" This tells us that he is now thinking about what he agreed to and that it might not of been such a good idea.

Dialogue that reveals things about his character “Sure it will work, it always works" showing that he believes in his lighter. “Sure ill bet, why not?" he is showing that he believes that his lighter will work, or he is stupid and is willing to chance his lighter in the how that he wins and gets the Cadillac

Technique Summary By Sally

Plot twist The plot twist was when the lady walked in on them about to finish the bet.

First Person character perspective The first person narrative perspective is the narrator. The narrator is the one who tells the story almost as he saw it happen. The narrator is telling the entire story. "Are you serious about cutting off this boy's finger if he loses?"

Dialogue Dialogue is used throughout the story and it is a way of showing the readers what the characters are saying. "I make it very easy for you, yes?"

Plot Summary By Cillian

The inciting incident that event at the start that gets the story going. The inciting incident at the start of the story is when the man from the south says that he wants to bet a Cadillac for the mans little finger on his left hand. Quote: "such as, perhaps de little finger on your left hand ".

The Climax : the point of the most tension where the reader is most involved. The point where there is lots of tension is when the man says Eight just before he cuts the boys finger off. "eight!"

The resolution: the part where the tension is resolved and the story is 'wrapped up' The resolution is when the lady comes in before the man cuts off his finger. " We all turned and saw a woman standing in the door way"

Main Ideas By Andrew

Discuss what the writer wants us to learn? The writer wants us to learn greed comes at a price and be careful what you wish for.

Provide a relevant quote to support this? "Down where we live at home he has taken altogether forty-seven fingers from different people, and he has lost eleven cars."

Identify which technique you think best shows the idea? Characterisation helps us understand this idea through the actions of the man from the south, gaining 47 finger but losing 11 cars. We understand that the man from the is a gambolling man.
