From God to Man The Story of How We Got the Bible Part 6 – Application & Propagation

Application

How We Got the Bible “the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of Jehovah” – Isaiah 11:9 1. Revelation 2. Inspiration 3. Documentation 4. Formation 5. Preservation 6. Translation 7. Application 8. Propagation From God To Man

From God to Men Part 1 - What good is it for God to REVEAL his word (Heb. 1:1-2) if it is not applied? What good is it for God to INSPIRE his word (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:20-21) if it is not applied? Part 2 – What good is it for God to DOCUMENT his word (Isa. 30:8) if it is not applied?

From God to Men Part 3 – What good is it for God to FORM (canon) his word (2 Pet. 3:15-16) if it is not applied? Part 4 – What good is it for God to PRESERVE his word (Deut. 17:18) if it is not applied? Part 5 – What good is if for men to TRANSLATE God’s word (Acts 8:32-33) if it is not applied?

Application God wants his word written not only on paper, but also upon “the tablet of thy heart” (Prov. 3:1-3; 7:1-3)

“Let not kindness and truth forsake thee: Bind them about thy neck; Write them upon the tablet of thy heart” (Prov. 3:3) …Bind them upon thy fingers; Write them upon the tablet of thy heart” (Prov. 7:3)

Application God wants his word written not only on paper, but also upon “the tablet of thy heart” (Prov. 3:1-3; 7:1-3) The NT is to be written in our heart (Jer. 31:33; Heb. 8:10; 10:16)

“Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was a husband unto them, saith Jehovah. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith Jehovah: I will put my law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people: and they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know Jehovah; for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith Jehovah: for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more” (Jer. 31:31-34)

Application Jesus spoke about hearing and doing (Mt. 7:24-27) Paul spoke about hearing and doing (Rom. 2:13)

“Every one therefore that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, shall be likened unto a wise man, who built his house upon the rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and if fell not: for it was founded upon the rock. And every one that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and smote upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall thereof” (Matthew 7:24-27)

Results of Application We are blessed only when we apply God’s word (Jas. 1:25-27; Rev. 1:1-3; 22:7)

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves. For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror: for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But he that looketh into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and so continueth, being not a hearer that forgetteth but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing” (Jas. 1:22-25)

“ The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show unto his servants, even the things which must shortly come to pass: and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John; who bare witness of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, even of all things that he saw. Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of the prophecy, and keep the things that are written therein: for the time is at hand” (Rev. 1:1-3)

Propagation

How We Got the Bible “the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of Jehovah” – Isaiah 11:9 1. Revelation 2. Inspiration 3. Documentation 4. Formation 5. Preservation 6. Translation 7. Application 8. Propagation From God To Man

Propagation The “chain” of God’s word is not complete with the “link” of application Propagation, spreading God’s word to others, is the final “link” We are to apply God’s word to ourselves and then share it with others (2 Tim. 2:2)

Propagation Share the Bible through your own example (2 Cor. 3:1-3; Phil. 1:20) Share the Bible to your own family (Deut. 6:6-9; 11:18-21; 2 Tim. 3:15) Share the Bible through personal evangelism (Acts 8:4; 11:19)

Propagation Share the Bible through teaching others in the local church (Acts 13:1; Tit. 2:4; Heb. 5:12) Share the Bible through preaching (2 Tim. 4:2, 5), being an elder (1 Tim. 3:2; Tit. 1:9), or supporting preachers (Gal. 6:6; 3 Jn. 6-8) Share the Bible itself, personally or by donating so that Bibles can be given away

Results of Propagation “The earth shall be filled with the knowledge of Jehovah” – Isaiah 11:9 “Which is come unto you; even as it is also in all the world bearing fruit and increasing” (Col. 1:6)… “Which was preached in all creation under heaven” (Col. 1:23)
