Grace Fellowship Church www.GraceDoctrine.org Pastor/Teacher Jim Rickard Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Christ’s Passion Week

The crucifixion of TLJC was the place of victory in the Angelic conflict as demonstrated through His resurrection. 1 Cor 15:20-22, 57

At the Cross Christ paid the penalty for the sins of every member of the human race.

1 Peter 2:24, “He carried our sins in His own body on the cross.”

Luke 22:19, “This is My body which is given for you.” 2 Cor 5:21, “He who knew no sin was made sin for us.”

1 John 2:2, “And He is the propitiation for our sins, but not for our sins only, but also for the entire world.” Unlimited Atonement. John 3:14-18

Therefore, anyone who believes in Christ’s work on the Cross for the forgiveness of their sins and His subsequent resurrection will be saved for all eternity. 1 John 5:10-12

Acts 10:43, “Of Him all the prophets bear witness (Old Test.) that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.”

His substitutionary spiritual death on the Cross for our sins makes reconciliation with God possible for all of mankind. John 6:40; 2 Cor 5:14 ‑ 19

Rom 5:6, “For while we were still helpless (spiritually dead), at the right time Christ died as a substitute for Godless ones.”

1 Tim 2:6, “Who gave himself a ransom a substitute for every one.”

God desires that every member of the human race would be saved.

2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slow about His promise (the Second Advent) as some count slowness, but is patient with reference to all of you, not willing that anyone perish, but for everyone to go on to repentance.”

Accounts of the Week Each gospel has its own unique emphasis.

Matthew emphasizes our Lord’s Kingship, written with a focus for the Israelite’s understanding.

Mark emphasizes His Servant hood, written with a focus for the Roman’s understanding.

Luke emphasizes Him as the Son of Man, written with a focus for the pagan Gentiles’ understanding.

John emphasizes Him as the Son of God, written with a focus for the Christian’s better understanding.

In regards to the Cross, each gospel also emphasizes a unique aspect of the scene.

Mat 27:50 emphasizes the sound at the point of His physical death; KRAZO which means to shout.

Mark 15:37 emphasizes His breath control in the Constative Aorist of APHIEMI, which means to exhale under breath control.

Luke emphasizes the content of His words. The expression of His royal family heritage in 23:46, as prophesized in Psa 31:5.

John 19:17-42 emphasizes the position of His body, on which he comments in 1 John 5.

Lev 23:4-14 gives us the Jewish timeline for the dates of Passover and Unleavened Bread.

Also note that the Israelites sometimes called the combined festivals of Passover and Unleavened Bread “Passover”. Mat 26:2

And Passover, which was the day of preparation for the feast of Unleavened bread, “the first day of Unleavened Bread”. Mat 26:17

The Roman day begins at 12:00 am where the Jewish day begins at 6:00 pm. Therefore, the Jewish day is behind the Roman day by ¾ th of a day.
