3 3 Why Do You Need To Know This? Using the order of operations to solve word problems is important because these problems apply to many real world situations. If the order of operations is not applied correctly, the answer will be incorrect.

4 4 Tickets Adult tickets for a movie cost $6 and children’s tickets cost $3. If two adults and three children go to the movies, how much will they pay?

5 5 Bowling Alicia rented bowling shoes for $3 and played 4 games at $2 each. Write and evaluate an expression for the total cost of bowling.

6 6 Tickets Tickets for the play cost $12 for adults and $8 for children. How much would 3 adult tickets and 5 children tickets cost?

7 7 Back to School Sale Your school bookstore’s prices are shown below. You purchase 5 folders, 3 notebooks, and a calculator. Write an expression that represents your total cost.
