3 Rights? What rights? Why? New Americans wanted certain rights and freedoms protected. Why? Past experience of abuse and mistreatment by England.

4 What and where are these rights? The so-called Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution in 1791 after it was ratified (as amendments/changes) in 1789. Why? The rights and freedoms proposed were considered highly unusual and controversial. Few nations had given these rights to citizens.

5 The Rights Rights were listed as a series of articles [Amendments]. There were ten (10) altogether. Amendment I: freedom of religion, assembly,, petition, press and speech Amendment II: right to bear arms [have weapons] Amendment III: freedom from quartering Amendment 4: freedom from search and seizure Amendment 5: right to justice; freedom from double jeopardy; self incrimination, eminent domain Amendment 6: right to a fair trial with a lawyer Amendment 7: right to a jury trial Amendment 8: protection from cruel and unusual punishment Amendment 9: rights ratified anywhere shall not reduce these Amendment 10: any rights not listed left to states or people

You must try to convince Americans why adding your right is a good idea for everyone. Your job is to: (1) Select a single right [from the 10 listed] you think is highly important or essential. (2) Create a poster describing and explaining why it should be added to the Constitution as an amendment. (3) You must be convincing, compelling and creative [neatness counts]. (4) Every effort should be made to make your flyer look as if it were from the late 1700s. (5) It can be handwritten or composed using the computer.
