2 TO UNDERSTAND AN ADVERB  To use an adverb, you must understand it. adjective,verb another adverb  An adverb modifies an adjective, a verb, and another adverb  Adverbs answer these questions: How, When, Where, To What Extent, How Often  Adverbs do not always end in Y.

3 HOW?-THE ADVERB WAY An adverb answers the question how. Ex:The long dress was extremely beautiful with it’s sweetheart neckline and pearly white thread. Extremely tells how beautiful it was. How beautiful was the dress,? How beautiful was the dress,? The dress was extremely beautiful. The dress was extremely beautiful. Pearly tells how white the thread was. How white was the thread? The thread was pearly white. (Notice how pearly doesn’t describe the thread; it isn’t pearly.). The thread was pearly white. (Notice how pearly doesn’t describe the thread; it isn’t pearly.). Why doesn’t the adverb modify the noun? The answer is because that’s the adjective's job.

4 WHEN- AN ADVERB QUESTOIN An adverb answers the question when. An adverb answers the question when. It tells when or what time of day. It tells when or what time of day. Ex: Lets go to the mall tomorrow. Ex: Lets go to the mall tomorrow. Tomorrow answers the question when. When will we go to the mall? Tomorrow we will go to the mall. Tomorrow answers the question when. When will we go to the mall? Tomorrow we will go to the mall.

5 WHERE- THE LOOKING QUESTION An adverb answers the question where An adverb answers the question where it tells where you are. it tells where you are. Ex: We are playing outside. Ex: We are playing outside. Where are we playing? Outside. Where are we playing? Outside.

6 TO WHAT EXTENT?????????  An adverb answers the question to what extent  Ex: It was an extremely horrible day.  To what extent was the day horrible?  It was extremely horrible.

7 TO WHAT EXTENT- THE EXTREMES An adverb answers the question to what extent Ex:The sun fell swiftly. To what extent did the sunset fall? The sunset fell rapidly.

8 HOW OFTEN An adverb answers the question to what extent when it tells how often something comes. Ex: The pick up truck never comes here. How often does the pick up truck come? Never.

9 WHAT WE LEARNED  An adverb describes an adjective, a verb, and another adverb.  Adverbs aren’t that hard  The adverb questions: how, when, where, to what extent, how often  Not,never,ever, almost, always are usually adverbs  An adverb modifies an adjective, a verb, or another adverb.

10 Try it! Find the adverb!   1)The dog happily jumped the fence, for he had done it three times before.   2)We weren’t finished making the fort yesterday.   3)Did you go to the nail salon today?   4)The bird slowly turned it’s head in a spooky manner.
