2  Capital city (Tenochtitlan- population 200,000) was located on an island on Lake Texcoco where present day Mexico City  Used floating gardens called “chinampas” “chinampas”  Raised maize (corn), beans, squash, flowers, avocados, tomatoes, peppers, turkeys, geese, ducks, and dogs

3  Civilization centered on warfare, and if you died in war it was a great honor  Conquered by the Spanish in the 1500’s by Hernan Cortes  The Aztecs The Aztecs

4  Located in the mountains of Peru, Colombia, Ecuator, N. Chile, and NW Argentina  Used terraced gardens that prevented erosion and irrigation canals to grow potatoes, maize (corn), and a grain called quinoa(used for its edible seeds that is closely related to beets, spinach, and tumbleweeds)terraced gardens
