1 TEWS Info Day, 31 Jan 2006, Paris Type of organisation: Waterknowledge Research Institute in the Netherlands Specialising in: in hydrology, hydraulics, morphology, water quality, aquatic ecology and system analysis advanced modelling systems, decision support systems and technical informations systems advanced experimental facilities for R&D and specialised consultancy purposes More specifically: Flood forecasting prediction, UK National Flood Forecasting System, Cyclone early warning & flood forecasting (Vietnam, India) Operational Dutch & St. Petersburg storm surge forecast In-house capacity: 350 of which 65% scientific, ‘advisor to the advisors’

2 Potential Interest/Contribution to TEWS TEWS: tsunami propagation model/floodrisk maps using well-proven state of the art Delft3D simulation software Development of web based GIS application presenting the results of a realtime tsunami and coastal flooding simulation to act as input to emergency & alerting communication system Development of real time coastal flooding based on emperically tested coastal flooding parameters Ongoing Training activity and capacity building for TEWS in Indonesia (with local partners BMG, ITB) to be extended to other countries Link up with other EU natural disaster alerting & emergency management projects (ie CHORIST project initiative) or to existing GDAS ( tsunami) website of EU-JRC Contact point: Mr Vatvani or Brocatus Email: rene.brocatus@wldelft.nl ; deepak.vatvani@wldelft.nl Tel: +31 15 2858585 Url: http: www.wldelft.nl

3 Desired Level of Cooperation Willing to participate in: STREP TEWS for geo-physical hazards (We can offer) Expertise in tsunami propagation modelling & generation of flood risk maps backed by own R&D efforts An extensive international cooperation network (USGS- tsunami modelling, BMG-Indonesia, IOTWS / USAID) Training capabilities for tsunami prone countries AND we seek complementary consortium partners in field of: seismic monitoring systems and early warning infrastructure suppliers Communication suppliers (ie cell broadcasting system) Alert & Emergency management systems.
