The Math Side n Decimal Notation n Comparing Decimals n Ordering Decimals

The Library Side n The Dewey Decimal system provides the specific order to arrange library books. n It keeps topics that are similar and alike close together on the shelf.

REF 510.2 SMI Library Books n Call numbers are typed onto spine labels n The call numbers use a combination of letters and numbers FIC CLE 001.25 AWE Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by Beverly Cleary Math and Its Importanceby Professor DuPre Computers are Fun by Dr. Awesome

Organize our library so we can locate and access books on the same topic on the shelves. What do the numbers of the Dewey Decimal system do for us today?

Decimal Order How in the world do you put decimals in order? For example: 500.9 629.8 252.1 591.2 620.8 658.7 914.56 970.23

Step #1: 252.1 500.912 500.91 591.2 620.8 620.49 629.8 658.7 914.56 970.51 970.23 Put the whole number parts in order.

Step #2: Rearrange the numbers so the tenths digits are in order. 252.1 591.2 500.912 500.91 620.49 620.8 629.8 658.7 914.56 970.23 970.51 252.1 500.912 500.91 591.2 620.8 620.49 629.8 658.7 914.56 970.51 970.23

Step #3: Rearrange the numbers so the hundredths digits are in order. 252.1 591.2 500.912 500.91 620.49 620.8 629.8 658.7 914.56 970.23 970.51 252.1 591.2 500.91 500.912 620.49 620.8 629.8 658.7 914.56 970.23 970.51
