How to choose a topic Your project is NOT a DEMONSTRATION. It is something that must be TESTABLE and MEASURABLE. You must have an experiment with CONTROLLED VARIABLES.

Science Fair is an ADVANCED concept It is NOT something you already know the answer to. It is NOT something you have done before. It is NOT a demonstration!

Testable and Measurable Your project must be TESTABLE. You are setting up an experiment that you can test (control). You must be able to identify and control the variables in your experiment. Your project must be measured in some way. You need to collect data and provide observations surrounding your variables. (Time, distance, level of substance, percentages, etc.)

Identify Controlled and Testable Variables ProjectControlled VariableTestable Variable PendulumsWeight, Length of swingAngle of drop BoatsCups, Water, Pennies, Procedure Height of boat LandformsAmount of Earth sediment, Tray, Procedure, amount of water Flow of water, slope

Choose something interesting to YOU! Ideas: Properties of lightPhysics Properties of heatForce and Motion EvaporationGrowth and Decay ErosionFood MechanicsMixtures and Solutions Plants and Nature

Tip for planning… Think to yourself: How does ____________ affect ____________ ? or What is the affect of ______________ on _____________________?
