6 NASA Academy Strategic Plan NASA ACADEMY MISSION: To Strengthen the U.S. Aerospace Program by Attracting and guiding its future leaders THREE STRATEGIC GOALS IMPACT - Have a direct impact on the U.S. Space Program PARTNERSHIP - Strengthen partnerships with the Alumni, Space Grant, Industry, Academia (Advisory Committee) DIVERSITY - Help U.S. Aerospace Program enroll high caliber participants that reflect demographics of American Higher Education

7 2007 Academies There will be four Academies Ames, Glenn, Goddard, and Marshall The dates for the Academies vary Ames June 23, 2007 to August 31, 2007 Tied to the University quarter system Glenn, Goddard, and Marshall June 3, 2007 to August 10, 2007

8 Selection Process Applications deadline (Online) January 16, 2007 Initial screening by NAAA completed January 29, 2007 Space Grant, Mentors, and NAAA Formal Review January 29- February 19, 2007 Centers selection complete February 22, 2007 Space Grant and Student notification February 26 - March 19, 2007

9 Criteria for selection Academic excellence Demonstrated leadership Demonstrated interests in Space Appropriate background for selected research tasks Recommendations (2)

10 NASA Academy at Ames for Space Exploration 12 students will be selected Housed at Stanford University Trips will include DFRC, JPL, and JSC, and Air Force Academy

11 NASA Academy at Glenn 8 - 12 students will be selected Trips will include Goddard, JSC

12 NASA Academy at Goddard 16 - 20 students will be selected Housed on the campus of the University of Maryland Trips will include, Marshall, JSC, Langley, Wallops and Air Force Academy

13 NASA Academy at Marshall 12 students will be selected Trips will include Goddard and JSC
