Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen HAZAS – Hazard Assessment ECCAIRS Technical Course Provided by the Joint Research Centre - Ispra (Italy) Server installation

Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen HAZAS – Hazard Assessment 2 Minimal System Requirements Server side –Pentium IV or equivalent. In multi-user systems with large amount of data, multi-processor systems are recommended to increase response times from database –256 Mb RAM (avg. 30Mb per connecting user) –75 Mb disk space –50 Kb disk space per occurrence  avg. 100 Mb every 2000 –60 Mb disk space for MSDE components –DCOM –Microsoft Windows Family (NT4, 2000, XP or 2003 workstation/professional or server) for Repository –OLEDB/ODBC interface for independency of DBMS –Non-Windows Database server allowed (Unix, etc.)

Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen HAZAS – Hazard Assessment 3 Data Middleware DCOMMiddleware Applications Exercise 4 Objective –Stand-alone server system Data Middleware Applications

Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen HAZAS – Hazard Assessment 4 Exercise 4 Installation (using Software Installation Manual) –Run the installer program for the ‘Server’ set up type –Run the MSDE installer Configuration –Start the Repository Manager –Create the mandatory profiles, the role and the user –Start the Browser –Create a connection to the Repository Use –Execute the default “Select All” query

Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen HAZAS – Hazard Assessment 5 SQL Server Tool Characteristics –Simple front end to SQL Server/MSDE Purpose –Interaction to SQL Server/MSDE instance on local PC Highlights –Limited management capabilities Notes to using MSDE as ECCAIRS database –No real management tools available Few command line utilities but must know syntax –Manual backup and restore (see also E4F Generator) –Can be managed by SQL Server Enterprise Manager –Capacity limited to 2Gb –With more than 5 active users, performance is artificially slowed down

Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen HAZAS – Hazard Assessment 6 Exercise 5 E4F Loader –Repeat Exercise 2 but this time load into the local Repository, i.e. on your PC E4F Generator –Connect to the local Repository, i.e. on your PC –Select the default “Select All” query –Select a suitable destination folder –Select, if desired, to split the output files (always recommended for queries yielding 1000+ records) –Select, if desired, the LOG options –Start the generation process
