2 I NTRODUCTION What do you know about animals and their homes? It’s important to know the different types of homes that animals live in because not all animals live in the same type of home. You and your group are in charge of creating a habitat for the new town zoo. Your job is to find out where they live, how they look, what they eat, and what other animals they can live with so we can better understand their lives and make the zoo successful!

3 T ASK Your assignment is to pretend the class is the town, and present the town your own creation of your habitat for your animal. You will work in groups to help each other find the information about the animal you are assigned and the home they live in. You will use this information to create a visual of the habitat to show your classmates, and convince the town that your animal should be in the new zoo.

4 P ROCESS Meet the teacher for group assignment and habitat/animal choice. Pick up a copy of the Record Activity Sheet that will help you record the facts about your animal. Record Activity Sheet Complete the sheet using the links provided for you. Use the links that are given to you and search for information to help you create your visual. Create a poster, model, or other type of visual of your animal and it’s habitat. Present your project to the town (your classmates) and explain to them your animal, the habitat, and why it should be in the zoo.

12 C ONCLUSION Learning about these different animals and their habitats is an important part of science and life. We now know where these animals live, what they look like, what they eat, and other animals that live in the same habitat. We hope that you learned some new things about the animals you did not research, and found their lives interesting. If you would like to learn more about these animals, the links provided will stay available to you. We hope you enjoyed it! All projects will be displayed in the classroom for classmates to see!

Language Arts Literacy W.1.2: Write informative/explanatory text in which they name a topic, supply facts about the topic, and provide sense of closure. W.1.7: Participate in shared research and writing projects. Technology 8.1.2.A.5: Demonstrate the ability to navigate in virtual environments that are developmentally appropriate.
