5 Qualities Expected of NHS Minimum GPA Character Leadership Service

6 Minimum GPA Everyone here qualifies with a GPA of 3.4 GPA no longer is considered on your application

7 Character You must demonstrate on your application how you have exemplary character What have you done to set yourself apart from your peers? Falsifying information on your application will be grounds for removal from NHS.

8 Leadership Give specific examples of your leadership skills Leadership is not just being a captain on a team, but organizing an event, or starting a worthy project A recommended 10 hours is suggested.

9 Service Give detailed examples of your service activities Please list the number of times you have participated in each service activity DO NOT list any paid activities as service activities A recommended 10 hours is suggested.

16 Application Don’ts Do not embellish the truth Do not forget to sell yourself! Do not use paid jobs for service examples

17 Procedures As you leave today, you will pick up only the community recommendation envelopes The completed application packets are to be returned by October 2nd by 3pm Community Recommendations are due October 9, 2011. You will only hand them to Ms. C, or Dr. Kellum in room 102 (across from the Auditorium) You will receive a receipt at that time indicating you have submitted your application

18 What Happens Next? The NHS selection committee meets and evaluates all the applications. This is done in a “Blind Process” Please understand- This committee is extremely selective. They have been given a charge they tend to with diligence Once the committee has evaluated all the applications, the selected students are then notified

19 What happens if I am selected? Attendance at all meetings are required Meetings are held every other Tuesday at 2:55 in the Studio Theatre

20 Requirements of NHS Members All NHS members are required to be available to tutor for 25 minutes a week. They will be assigned based on subject preference. All members are expected to participate in 8 NHS service project hours per semester in addition to tutoring.

21 Requirements cont’ Understand you are REQUIRED to complete service hours. Please do not apply for NHS if you are not willing to fulfill this minimal expectation. Understand you are REQUIRED to attend weekly meetings. Having a job is not an excuse for missing a meeting.
