3. What is buildingSmart
An international, neutral and non-profit organisation that supports openBIM.
Organized as regional alliances, so-called chapters, for countries or groups of countries.
Each chapter is an independent and is established to reflect local conditions.
There are chapters in Europe, North America, Australia, Asia and the Middle-East.
Develop and maintain international standards for openBIM.

4. What is openBIM
A comprehensive approach to collaboration, design, construction and operation of built assets based on open standards and workflow.
An initiative by buildingSMART and several leading software vendors to use the open buildingSMART data model (ISO 16739).
Objectives:
Support transparent and open workflows for all actors and independent of software tools.
Enable transparent commercial conditions, comparable services and high data quality by a common language for building processes.
Create lasting life-cycle repositories that grow with a built asset and its use.
Encourage fair competition for "best of breed"-solutions.

USA & Singapore pioneered specifying openBIM for projects The UK has the only National public sector mandate Nordics are advanced in standards with some openBIM mandates Globally, openBIM requirements and Execution Plans for projects are ever increasing Frequently, benefits from new technologies drive adoption UK’s lead may not last, but its work will have a global impact if guidance such as PAS1192:2 is promoted to ISO.
1192 is a British family of standards. BSI 1192:2007 describes a framework for information management in building processes applicable to paper, CAD and BIM. BSI PAS 1192:2 specifies flow of information during the life cycle and defines exchange requirements in different phases.
