Co-ordinated by the U.K. Safer Internet Centre Occurs every February Celebrated in over a hundred countries Promotes the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology

This year’s theme focuses on three areas to encourage all users to contribute in making a better Internet. These are: online safety digital responsibility positive use of digital technology.

There are many ways that you can keep yourself safe from risk when using technology. Here are some suggestions: always use imaginative passwords only ‘friend’ those that you know be aware of how to spot spam or phishing emails/posts.

Keep personal details private Post creative content or something about your interests. Make videos creative and interesting, not ‘provocative’ Avoid countless ‘selfies’!

Always act responsibly when you are using technology. Here are some suggestions: if you haven’t got anything nice to say, then don’t say anything only post content that you would be happy to read yourself! avoid ‘trolling’ people engage in online discussions in a positive manner and constructively.

Always ask for permission from the owner or use other ‘free-to-use’ content Always have a healthy suspicion of content that you read on the web.

There are many ways that you can use technology in positive and creative ways. Here are some suggestions: Learn a new language Design and create a game Learn songs or make music.

Write a blog about a hobby Learn about life on the International Space Station by following NASA on social media Find out more about an interest on video steaming sites
