 An effective strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions must include: -Improved fuel economy -Reduce carbon content in fuels -Reduce the growth of vehicle miles of travel

Advantages  Save fuel  Reduces an individual’s carbon footprint  Reduces congestion

 CO2 emission could be reduced with 60% by 2050 by technological innovations and diffusion  With public transportation it is reducing energy consumption and harmful carbon dioxide (CO2) greenhouse gas emissions that damage the environment

Public Transportation  Transportation currently emits about 1/3 of all CO2 emissions; most of it by passenger cars  Uses less energy  Produces less pollution than comparable travel in private vehicles

 US can save an equivalent of 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline annually- more than 11 million gallons of gasoline per day

Advantages  Provides affordable alternative to driving  Households that use public transportation save an average of $6,251 every year  Make cars more efficient, reduce the number of miles traveled by the world’s cars

The Wedge Emission Savings  Would be achieved if the fuel efficiency of all the cars projected for 2055 were doubled from 30 mpg to 60 mpg  Achieved if the number of miles traveled by the world’s cars were cut in half

Suggestions To Reduce Carbon Emission  Take up cycling- its cheaper and better for your health  Take public transportation- in city it is easier to use the bus than finding parking space!  Avoid flying- one long haul flight can increase your carbon footprint by up to 24%  Drive Slower- cars use 25% less fuel at 55 mph than at 70 mph
