2 History Established in 1972 as UH Mānoa Commission on the Status of Women (UHM CSW) Part of systemwide reorganization in 1986 Renamed UH President’s CSW

3 Issues of Interest to CSW Childcare Students on welfare Gender equity in athletics (Title IX) Campus safety and security Equitable practices in hiring, pay, promotion and tenure Access to resources Women in higher administration Recourse for sexual harassment Development of curriculum in women’s studies Compliance with the mandates of affirmative action and equal opportunity

8 Women’s Leadership and Advancement Administrative Fellowship Program Professional development for civil service and support staff Participation in national women’s leadership institutes; Women Student Leadership Conference.

9 Benefits to UH Recruitment and retention of women faculty and administrators Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) programs continue to employ fewer women as senior faculty and administrators Providing incentives and support for women and under-represented populations Support next generation of leaders

10 Administrative Fellowship Program (AFP) Identify, prepare, and support women leadership and advancement Create internship program for women faculty and mid-level managers Create larger pool of qualified candidates for advancement to administration Develop mentoring and skill development for potential women leaders

11 Profession Development for Civil Service and Support Staff Funding for staff to attend one-day workshops on leadership or areas of expertise Release time without penalty to attend workshops and seminars Support from highest levels of administration
