6 Listening tips: To complete a listening exercise, you need to remember the important information. To help you, you should do the following: Learn to listen for important information. Take notes as you listen along. Use short forms, initials or any helpful signs and symbols to take a quick note.

7 Part 1: Listen to a list of objects and memorize them, and then you’ll hear a question about the objects. Please write short answers to the question as quickly as possible and raise your hand to tell us what you’ve written.

8 First, you’ll hear a list: One. A dog, a cake, a lion, a book, a cat. Then, you’ll hear a question: Question one. How many animals were on that list? Now, what’s your answer? Three.

9 List: Two. A telephone, a fax machine, a boat, a policeman, a television set. Question: Question two. What was the first item on that list? Answer: A telephone.

10 List: Three. A banana, a hamburger, an apple, a coconut, a pizza. Question: Question three. How many fruits were on that list? Answer: Three.

11 List: Four. A policeman, a postman, a teacher, a headmaster, a waitress. Question: Question four. How many of those words ended in “man”? Answer: Two.

12 List: Five. Oxygen, water, carbon, nitrogen, pollution. Question: Question five. On that list, what was the word before the word “water”? Answer: Oxygen.

13 List: Six. A car, a ferry, a bicycle, a ship, a plane. Question: Question six. How many of the vehicles have wheels? Answer: Three.

14 List: Seven. Blue, sky, bird, rainbow, building. Question: Question seven. How many of the words on that list began with the letter “B”? Answer: Three.

15 List: Eight. Bread, rice,trousers, green, elephant, glue. Question: Question eight. What was the fourth word on that list? Answer: Green.

16 List: Nine. A bridge, a tunnel, a mountain, a river, a highway. Question: Question nine. How many of the things on that list are NOT made by people? Answer: Two.

17 List: Ten. Peter, David, Sally, Kate, Tom. Question: Question ten. What was the second name on that list? Answer: David.
