1 Creating a Google Drive Presentation By Ms. Rogers & Ms. Heskett

2 Google Drive Creator One student from your group needs to be the Google Drive Creator. Follow these steps…  Go to Drive  Click "Create new" and then "Presentation”  Title it including the period (Example: A2+Final+Catcher+Project).  Save it.  In the upper right corner, click "Share”  Type in your group members’ gmail addresses. Also type in your teacher’s email address: gheskett@sccs.net or jrogers@sccs.netgheskett@sccs.net  Allow everyone in the group to edit.

3 HOW GOOGLE DRIVE WORKS Everyone in your team can work on your presentation at the same time from ANY computer with internet access, so long as you remember your Gmail account. (TIP: put it in your phone so you don’t forget it) Creating a presentation in Google drive is similar to creating a presentation in PowerPoint. Create new slides with the "Slide" button. Choose a slide layout that works with your text/ image needs.

4 The Info On Your Slides Each person is responsible for using your WRITTEN REPORT to create slides. LIMIT the WRITING on each page. Do NOT type up your entire paragraph from your written report. Include only KEY POINTS.

5 Presenting Your Slides You are required to present ADDITIONAL information NOT on your slides. This includes … Providing examples from the text to support your choices making connections to Holden explaining any visuals You may use 3x5 CARDS to assist you (not your cell phone).

6 The LOOK of Your Slides Headings Organize your ideas with headings. Some slides have been included as SAMPLES which you are free to change. Colors & Backgrounds Use DARK, contrasting colors so that writing stands out and can easily be read. Font Use easy to read text. Make sure to coordinate so everyone is using the same fonts and sizes.

7 PICTURES Use fair-use images from http://search.creativecommons.org/ or US government sites. Visuals should ADD information to your presentation. VIDEOS You may use short video clips.

10 Principal Create slides covering the areas below. Use your written report to help you! 1. As principal, you will be the first person to speak in your group. What will you say to make an audience of parents and students feel welcomed, comfortable and curious about what your school has to offer that will support students like Holden right from the beginning? TIP: make sure to mention the name of your school as you welcome your audience 2. As principal, what is the most important thing for prospective students like Holden and their families to know about you, your background, or your philosophy about working with young people?.

11 Our Mission Principal 3.What is the mission or philosophy of your school? What is your school motto? How is this appropriate for students like Holden? Give specific examples from the text to support your ideas.

12 About Our School Principal 4. Provide an overview of the school. Some possible topics to discuss: the history and traditions of the school, who attends your school, where it is located and the benefits of this location, the type of schedule you have and calendar year, parent involvement, school policies and approach to discipline. Focus ONLY on those topics where you can provide reasons that connect directly to Holden. Give examples from the text that support your choices and explain how they will benefit Holden and students like him.

13 Special Programs Principal 5. Describe the special programs, courses and electives that are offered and especially unique to your school. Make sure to explain the benefits of each program, the goals and how these will appeal to students like Holden. Give examples from the text to support your choices.

Write this paragraph the same way you would write a speech. TIP: what TOPICS are you going to cover? 2. As a teacher, what is the most important thing for prospective students like Holden and their families to know about you, your background, or your philosophy about working with young people? Write this paragraph the same way you would write a speech.

15 Curriculum Teacher 3. What type of curriculum and instructional activities does your school use that might interest and engage students like Holden? You might speak to the following topics: the type of topics, books / materials and units that are taught, the types of assignments and projects students are asked to complete (ie. how are students evaluated?), and the strategies teachers use to help their students learn the material. Point out examples from the text to support your ideas. Explain how your choices will benefit him and students like him.

16 Support with Academic Skills Teacher 4. What academic skills are necessary to be successful as a student and what kinds of obstacles do Holden and many of your students face towards acquiring these skills? Point out specific examples from the text that indicate the types of obstacles Holden faces. How does your school help your students overcome these obstacles and develop these skills?

17 Relationships Teacher 5. Describe the kinds of relationships that are fostered between students and staff at your school. Why do you think this would be good for students like Holden? Point out specific examples of Holden’s relationships with staff at his previous schools to support your answer.

18 Activities Director Create slides covering the areas below. TIP: what TOPICS are you going to cover? 2.As the Activities Director, what is the most important thing for prospective students like you and their families to know about you, your background, and experiences at your school? 19 Our Extra Curricular Program Activities Director 3. What type of extra-curricular programs, social events and activities does your school offer that might appeal to students like Holden? Support your answer by describing the kinds of things Holden likes to do for fun and what he dislikes. How does your school support students like Holden in either avoiding or overcoming these dislikes? Explain how your choices will benefit Holden and students like him.

20 Our Student Body Activities Director 4. Describe the types of students that attend your school. Support your answer by describing the kinds of people Holden enjoys socializing with and the kinds of people he dislikes with examples from the text.

21 Social Environment Activities Director 5. Describe what interactions between students are like. What concerns might parents and students like Holden have about the social environment of a school? Point out examples based on Holden’s experiences at his past schools. How will you ease their concerns?

22 Counselor Create slides covering the areas below. Use your written report to help you! 1. What will you say to welcome the parents and students who have come to find out about your school? Write this paragraph the same way you would write a speech. TIP: include what TOPICS you are going to cover in your presentation. 2. As a counselor, what is the most important thing for prospective students like Holden and their families to know about you, your background, and philosophy working with young people? Write this paragraph the same way you would write a speech.

23 Future Planning Counselor 3. What types of services related to career exploration, goal setting and future planning does your school offer that students like Holden would benefit from? Based on what you know about Holden, his personality, interests, and values, what types of careers would you encourage Holden to explore? What might you recommend to support Holden with planning for his future? Support your ideas with examples from the text.

24 Mental Health Services Counselor 4. What types of mental health programs and counseling services does your school offer that will help students like Holden? (Be specific. Do not just say therapy. What approaches and techniques does your school find most beneficial for supporting students like Holden?). Give examples from the text to support your ideas.

25 Closing A note to all - Your counselor will write up your ideas but ALL team members should be involved in planning and presenting your closing. 5. As the FINAL person to speak, you will need to provide closure to your presentation. Sum up why your school is the best choice for students like Holden. What might you say to encourage parents and students to take the next steps and register at your school? How might you leave your audience with a lasting and positive impression of the staff, students and school as a whole? (TIP: your closure should involve doing or saying something together as a whole team).

27 Last Step: Edit Have one person responsible for reviewing the entire slide show. Correct formatting issues, misspellings, etc. Delete slides like this one that were designed to help you but are not relevant to your project.
