3 3 Course Organization: –Lectures: F 10:00 –Labs: Expected to complete 8 – 10 labs (time permitting) Required Book: –Instructor will provide soft copies of lab manual chapters –Recommended: CS 4390 textbook or any other Computer Networks text book Course Evaluations: –Two Quizzes (10% each) –Labs (80% total) Co-requisite: CS 4390 or equivalent E-Learning: For grade posting, slides, lab manual chapters, and lab report submission

4 4 Labs Lab equipment is located in ECSS 3.217 –Can also use your own equipment (laptop or desktop) Access to lab room –The room will be unlocked 7am to midnight Monday to Sunday Equipment: –10 PCs with the same config – you need only one PC for the labs –Will assign local accounts on the systems for students No remote access to do the labs You will be assigned a lab slot for the whole semester –Will have guaranteed access to the lab during your slot –Will have access to the lab other times as well (but no guarantees in advance)

5 5 Labs Lab sessions make a significant portion of the class –Lab session (3+ hours) + Postlab report –The first lab will start next week Lab is to be done in a group of two –We will form the groups today in class –We will fix lab time slots today in class –Slots: 7 days a week Morning (end 12:30pm); afternoon (ends 6pm); evening (ends midnight) Lab report will be done as a group

6 6 Structure of the Labs Before you go to the Internet Lab –Do the related reading/research In the lab –Show up for your time slot –Complete exercises (~3 hours) –Take measurements –Save your data After the lab –Use data collected –Write lab report –Submit lab report by due date Via e-Learning system

7 Lab Rules Each lab will have a soft deadline and a hard deadline –No help is guaranteed if you do not contact us by soft deadline for help –Hard deadline is report submission due date –We will accept late reports (after hard deadline) based on the following formula For each late day, your grade will be out of 100-2 (num of late days) with a minimum grade of zero 7
