Katie, Tuesday, Cooper Abstract - names something that you can think about, like an idea or feeling, but cannot touch. ex. poverty, courage, quality Collective - names a collection or group of persons, animals, places, or things. ex. class of students, batch of cookies, gaggle of geese

3. Pronoun take the place of nouns and help make your writing read smoothly. Without Pronoun: Tony woke up and thought that Tony would vary Tony’s routine and ride Tony’s bike to school. With Pronoun: Tony woke up and thought that he would vary his routine and ride his bike to school.

4. Adjective describes a noun or pronoun or gives more specific meaning answers the questions what kind, which one, how many, or how much Examples: pretty flowers, family home, scary movie, shiny quarter

5. Verb shows action Can be present tense, past tense, future tense, present perfect tense, past perfect tense, future perfect tense

6. Adverb modifies a verb, and adjective, or another adverb. Answers the questions where, when, in what way, or to what extent

7. Preposition A word that introduces a prepositional phrase Ex. In the air, over the hills, on the ground More examples: of, by, without, with, in, at, to

8. Prepositional Phrase group of words that includes a preposition and a noun or pronoun that is the object of the preposition. Ex.

9. Conjunction connects other words or groups of words. Ex. coordinating - and, but, so, far, and yet I hear and I forget. I see, and I remember. I do, and I understand. I would eat pizza, but I will have salad. Correlative - either, or neither, nornot only, but also both, and whether, or
