2 Social Status Immoral Lower Class A Friar is licensed to beg for donations in a limited area. Also was licensed to hear confessions. He was wealthy, due to his underhanded and corrupt methods of begging.

3 The Friar Physical Characteristics A festive fellow He pretended to have a lisp to make himself sound more dignified He had a lot of nice things, including a fair amount of jewelry in his robes that he use to woo the ladies His neck was whiter than a lily-flower He was the finest beggar of his batch Personal Traits He is a dishonest man who lies to people of the town He could play the “hurdy-gurdy” which is like a fiddle Everyone thought he was great at hearing confessions He married off many women He was a huge ladies man He had a specials license from the pope

4 Dress Wore expensive cap the popes and doctors would wear. Wore thick, bell-shaped robs that were so splendid he looked like a pope instead of a poor friar.

5 Reason for going on the pilgrimage The pilgrimage is when everyone is moving forward to a new place. It is very busy and important event. Many people are getting married or confessing all of a sudden and the Friar is needed to fulfill those task. He is known for befriending many people, especially young women or men to help them in their services.

6 Does Chaucer approve of this character, or does he indicate that he had failed his faith? Chaucer indicated that the Friar has failed in his faith. Chaucer explains by telling in the prologue that the Friar stills all of the belongings that he is supposed to give to the poor and widows.

7 Faults this character might have according to Chaucer In the prologue Chaucer explains the Friar as a very greedy man. The Friar cares to much about his appearance, and how much and items he has.
