2 DILAPIDATED Adjective In disrepair, partially ruined or decayed The old, dilapidated Model T-Ford was crumbling and decaying in the garage.

3 AMBIANCE Noun The mood or atmosphere of a place. The ambiance of the formal restaurant was very romantic and soothing, because of the dark shade of blue and the dim lighting.

4 CONGENIAL Adjective Agreeable, friendly Fred’s best friend was a congenial and an understanding person.

5 RAPACIOUS Adjective Grasping or covetous, voracious Harry’s rapacious grandmother was always touching his hair and bothering him.

6 THRESHOLD Noun Gate door or boundary. As I entered the sleeping bear’s threshold, it started to growl.

7 TANTALIZING Adjective Possessing a quality that causes interest or desire. The diamond ring inside the case was so tempting and tantalizing to take.

8 EMANATE Verb To emit, come out from. As I was studying, a delicious smell emanated from the kitchen.

9 COMPENSATED Verb Reimbursed, paid back. I compensated my neighbor by fixing their fence because I wrecked my bike into his fence.

10 DAPPER Adjective Neat and stylish in appearance. My father was very dapper when he attended his formal meeting.

11 BOISTEROUS Adjective Noisy, rowdy. My younger siblings were very boisterous and annoying.

12 BECKONED Verb Summoned or signaled. I beckoned my sisters to come back home before dinner.

13 BRANDISHING Verb Shaking or waving in a threatening manner. I brandished the sword to protect myself from the bears.

14 DINGY Adjective Dirty, unclean. The dingy garbage man was extremely smelly after his rounds.

15 UNEARTHED Verb Dug up or discovered. When we were at an old civil war battlefield, we unearthed ancient bullets.

16 RECLUSIVE Adjective Solitary, hidden from society. When our family went to a private beach, we found a reclusive spot.

17 UNSEEMLY Adjective Inappropriate When I found out that the meeting was at 4:00 a.m. I stated to my boss on how unseemly a time that was.

18 TENUOUSLY Adverb Weakly As I did my final push-ups, I tenuously struggled through the last few.

19 CONTORTED Adjective Violently twisted. The contorted body of the raccoon was laying on the road after being run over by a car.
