1 Roman identity in Roma and Roman Holiday How Rome's identity is manipulated to suit the film makers of Roma and Roman Holiday based on their intended audiences and each film's "purpose".

2 Roma (1972)  Fellini movie.  Designed expose a European audience to Fellini’s vision of Rome.  Main character in the movie is Rome.  Major monuments not seen. 3 Roman Holiday (1953)  Designed to expose Americans to Rome (and in a larger sense, Europe in general) after WWII. Wanted to encourage travel to the area.  Large monuments almost solely focused on (mouth of truth, coliseum, spanish steps). City looks immaculate, brightly lit, very clean. 4 Why compare the two films?  Both films are attempting to expose Rome to a very specific audience in a new light. Fellini is trying to show Europe the Rome he experienced, and Roman Holiday is trying to entice Americans to visit the now American-friendly city.  Each film manipulates the cultural identity of Rome to suit their purposes. Great use of landscape for this purpose.
