Lesson 2: Earth’s Interior

Clues to Earth’s Interior – What’s below Earth’s surface? – Temperature and Pressure Increase with Depth – Using Earthquake Waves

Earth’s Layers Crust: the brittle, rocky outer layer of Earth Mantle: the thick middle layer in the solid part of Earth – Lithosphere: scientists group the crust and the uppermost mantle into a rigid layer called the lithosphere – Asthenosphere: the plastic layer within the mantle – Upper Mantle and Lower Mantle

Earth’s Layers Core: is the dense metallic center of Earth – Outer Core – Inner Core

Earth’s Core and Geomagnetism Earth’s Magnetic Field Magnetosphere: The outer part of the magnetic field that interacts with the charged particles coming from the sun wind

Homework Write down the questions and turn them to me today (10/28) Textbook: Page 24 #1, 2, 3, 4, 6 & 9
