5 When was AMICAL created?  2004  initial planning meeting at AUP  letter of intent to cooperate

6 When was AMICAL created?  2006  Membership agreement + Operational guidelines

7 Why was AMICAL created? AMICAL’s mission: to advance learning, teaching and research through the collaborative development of library and information services and curricular resources at member institutions.

8 How does AMICAL do its work?  Funding  Mellon Foundation: core operating expenses + programs  Member fees: additional expenses + workshops  Administrative work  Hosted at American University of Paris  1 grant-funded employee (Director)  Collaborative work  Annual conferences  Workshops  Virtual collaboration: email, Skype, etc.

9 What does AMICAL do?  Consortial purchasing (of databases and library services)  Staff and faculty development  OCLC-RESPOND library services  Consulting on library/IT/curricular goals  Collection of comparative data (benchmarking) on libraries, IT services, technology in the curriculum
