1 INTRODUCTION EndPreviousNext Azotobacter is a free-living aerobic nitrogen fixing bacterium. Seed inoculation with Azotobacter helps in saving nitrogenous fertilizers by 15-20kg N/ha. It also improves seed germination, root proliferation and reduces the damage to crop by plant diseases. It can be used for upland crops. Azotobacter as component of INM

2 Azotobacter is a free-living aerobic nitrogen fixing bacterium. It fixes on an average15-20 Kg N/ha by asymbiotic mechanism. EndPreviousNext

3 Azotobacter in combination with 60 kg N/ha and 60 kg P 2 O 5 / ha as rock phosphate produce significant effect on yield of wheat. Azotobacter Inoculation EndPreviousNext Azotobacter as component of INM Azotobacter Biofertilizers can be used for upland crops. Increase in yield of cereals(15- 30%),vegetables(2-45%) and cash crops(10-20%) is recorded due to Azotobacter inoculation.

8 IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION FOR AZOTOBACTER Azotobacter as component of INM EndPreviousNext Azotobacter contributes moderate benefits. Azotobacter requires a large amount of organic carbon for its growth. It is poor competitor for nutrients in soil. It benefits crops by Nitrogen fixation, growth promoting and fungistatic substances. It improves seed germination and plant growth. It thrives even in alkaline soils. But less effective in soils having poor organic matter.
