2 What is a Wetland? A special environment. Lots of different types: Dams. Lakes. Rivers. Ponds. Swamps. Springs. Creeks

3 Why are Wetlands Important? Wetlands? increase water quality. Store flood water. Provide water for wildlife in the dry season. Filter our rivers. Stop erosion. Were tourists go. Support business like fishing, tourist and farming. Provide food for animals. Lots of flora and fauna. Good breeding place.

4 What Would You Find In a Wetland ? People, camping, bird watching, canoeing, boating, fishing, hunting and bush walking. Breeding places: Water birds, fish, frogs, reptiles and insects. Birds from Northern Hemisphere that migrate to Victoria Wetlands. Aborignal people (kimberly region). Lilly flower. Water plants. Ducks. Lilly pads. Crayfish. Snails. Turtles. Alligators

5 Where are Wetlands Located? At Wonga Wetlands (Albury). There are big ones and small wetlands all over the place. Kimberly region (North – Western Australia) famous. Murray – Darlin Basin. Gulfof Carpentaria. Ross river. Didgeridoo lagoon. Victoria Eleven Major Wetlands are: Gippsland lakes. Barmah forest. Kerang wetlands.

6 How can we Protect Wetlands? Don’t litter in Wetlands because plastic bags can kill animals. Encourage people to make a wetland on there property. Don’t pull trees out of our wetlands. Victoria lost more than 37% of wetlands. Government provides money for protecting wetlands. Farmers look after wetlands on there property’s. Keep researching wetlands.
