Think-Write-RoundRobin Think about my explanation and what you just saw. On page 11 of your science notebook, record your observations and any explanations you may have about what you saw.

Think-Write-RoundRobin Share what you wrote with your team. Each team member gets 15 seconds to share their observations. Revise or add to what you wrote based on what your team members said.

Definitions Below your description of what you saw, copy down any words in bold and their definitions.

Observation vs Inference Observation is the collection of information using the five senses. Observations you record should be as detailed as possible.

Observation vs Inference An inference is an explanation based on observation. – Observations DESCRIBE – Inferences EXPLAIN

Observation vs Inference Reread the account you wrote. Underline all observations once and all inferences twice.

Qualitative vs Quantitative Observations Qualitative observations describe an object’s characteristics, properties, or attributes. – Example: The apple is red Quantitative observations involve a quantity or an amount. – Example: The apple weighed 2 ounces
