1 Introduction to other English Speaking Countries Australia, Canada, and The United Kingdom

2 American History America was called the ‘New World’ and was settled by European colonists who wanted religious freedom. For a long time, the colonies were still governed by the British Empire. Eventually, the colonists wanted to form their own country and began fighting for freedom from the British.

4 A Little Bit More on America The opening shots of the American Revolution were fired at Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts in April 1775. America was ‘born’ on July 4, 1776. George Washington was the leader of the continental army and first president of the United States. A democracy is a government for the people, by the people where the people have the power.

8 Australia Australia is home to the world’s most dangerous animals. (Sharks, jellyfish, crocodiles, etc.) There are more kangaroos than people. It is the only country that takes up an entire continent.

9 Australia The Great Barrier Reef runs along Australia’s northeastern coast. It is the world’s largest structure made by living things.

12 Canada The east coast of Canada was settled by Vikings.

13 Canada Basketball was invented in Canada. French is also a major language. Canadians have a similar accent to Americans. They us words like ‘eh’ that most Americans do not.

14 Canada Canada is one of the best places to view the Aurora Borealis, also called the Northern Lights. Advanced science terms below! If you do not understand, then do not worry about it! The Northern Lights are caused by winds and particles from the sun interacting with the Earth’s magnetic field.

17 The United Kingdom The United Kingdom is made up of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and England. The history here is rich. (There’s too much to even begin! Unlike Canada and America, the United Kingdom is much older.) A lot of legends, writers, artists, political leaders, athletes, and scientists have come from this area. This is the part of the world where all the stories about princesses, knights, and castles comes from.
