Week 10 Putting it All Together: Aligning Goals, Performances, Assessment and Technology

Week 10 Goals for this Week Understand how to align goals, performances, and assessments to support students' understanding Understand how the elements of the TfU framework work together to support coherent curriculum and instruction that leverages new technologies for learning. Appreciate how the CCDT can help you to align the elements of the TfU framework.

Week 10 Activities for this Week 1)Aligning elements of curriculum design 2)Coming up:  Project presentations  Submitting finished work  Paper topics and outlines  Preparing for the debate 3)Open Q&A / Individual Consults 4) Reviewing your partner’s design

Week 10 Aligning Goals, Performances & Assessments Does it “feel” right? Do UPs engage students in developing exactly those understandings articulated in your UGs? Do criteria for OAs closely relate to goals? Do technology choices actually amplify goals, enhance performances or support assessment in some way? Do these elements address the target of difficuty?

Week 10 Using the Associating Tool in the CCDT

Week 10 Or...Use a Graphic Organizer UGs UPs OAs Technology Corresponding UGs ToDGT

Week 10 Coming up.... Project presentation criteria 1. Clearly summarize the goals and the design of the unit and explain its rationale in relation to the most relevant readings from the course. 2. Focus on the way technology is used to improve teaching and learning about a particular “target of difficulty” and specific understanding goals. 3. Highlight dilemmas or insights from the design process. 4. Make a well-crafted succinct presentation in no more than 10 minutes and leave time to discuss the dilemmas or insights posed. 5. If you choose to use technology to support your presentation, take care to demonstrate its affordances as a teaching technology in the way you use it.

Week 10 Presentation Tips  Practice explaining to someone who doesn’t know TfU stuff for clarity--present as if to a lay person  Practice timing--10 minutes speaking, 3-4 for questions  Test your technology in advance & have a backup plan  While the previous speaker takes questions, come up and quietly load your presentation

Week 10 Coming Up.... Submitting your finished design (due Jan 4): Export design as “graphic organizer” (Mac or PC) in PDF format OR Export as print file (Mac only)and save as PDF in the print screen Put final designs in the drop box on the course web site. Instructions will be on the course web site

Week 10 Coming up.... Final papers--important dates Topic ideas due today (discussion forum) Paper outline due by December 21 (drop box) Final paper due by 4:30 PM January 11 (drop box) Final papers should be uploaded or emailed in MS Word format.

Week 10 Coming Up... Preparing for the debate... Two teams Read, identify issues with your team (private discussions online) Prepare best arguments for and against “Are computers, information and communications technologies in schools worth the investment?” Determine who will present and rebut which arguments Will not know which side you will argue until that day

Week 10 Preparing for next class... Homework is to review your partner’s design in detail using the criteria in the project assessment rubric: Fill out the rubric Post a comment in CCDT message board Upload the completed rubric attached to your comment Next week’s lab topic: Mobile computing (guest speaker?) Presentations will begin promptly at 5:30 Review your partner’s feedback on your design and incorporate/revise
