2 Righteous Judgement Medina Church of Christ September 6 th,2015 Adapted from Lesson by Joel Plunkett

3 Righteous Judgement 1)Right Standard: God’s Word It must be God’s Word. (Psalm 12:6, Psalm 18:30, Prov. 30:5) We are under Christ’s Testament. (Rom. 7:4-6, Heb. 9:15-17) We walk by faith (2 Cor. 5:6-7, Rom. 10:17) We will all be judged by this on the last day. (John 12:48-50) 2)Right Motive: Love – Love is the only proper motive for judgment. (1 Cor. 13:1-3, Matthew 6:1-5, Philippians 1:15-18) 3)Right Person: Individual – Judgment should be based on an individual’s action, not because they may be associated with some “group”. – Jesus was profiled by Nathanael. (John 1:46) – Peter clearly states – “Truly I understand the God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears Him and does what is right is acceptable to Him.” (Acts 10:34-35)

4 Righteous Judgement 4)Right Disposition: Mercy Mercy is the disposition that we want and NEED from God. (Matt. 18:21-35) God requires mercy from us toward others. (Matt. 18:33, James 2:8-13) God has always applied justice, but with mercy. He has always commanded this of His children as well. (Micah 6:6-8, Matthew 5:7, 1 & 2 Corinthians) 5)Right Application: Consistent – We are to judge, but we must be consistent judges. – This not only includes being fair to all people, but also making the same consistent judgment on our own actions and lives. (Romans 2:1-2, Matthew 7:1-5) Without condemnation, we will get comfortable with sin!
