Calculating density

Measuring density: 1 Find out the mass of each object with an electronic balance. Calculating density

2 Find out the volume of each object with a measuring cylinder. Calculating density

3 Calculate the density of each object: Density = Density = Mass Volume Calculating density

Why does a fresh egg sink in water? Why does it sink? Because its density is higher than water. How can we make the egg float? Increase the density of the liquid. Calculating density

Measure 18 g table salt with an electronic balance. Then add the salt into 200 cm 3 water. Calculating density

Density of water without salt: 1 g/cm 3 Density of water with salt: Mass of 200 cm 3 water = 200 g Mass of salt = 18 g Mass of salt water = 200 g + 18 g = 218 g Volume of salt water = 200 cm 3 Density of salt water = 218 g  200 = 1.09 g/cm 3 The egg floats!!! Calculating density
