Probability of Independent Events Math 4

EQ How do I find the probability of two or more independent events?

Steps… 1.Find the probability that each event will occur. 2.Multiply the individual fractional probabilities to get the probability that the overall event will occur. 3.Express final answer as a percentage.

Example 1 Bag A contains 9 red marbles and 3 green marbles. Bag B contains 9 black marbles and 6 orange marbles. Find the probability of selecting 1 green marble from bag A and 1 black marble from bag B in one draw from each bag.

Example 2 Two seniors, one from each government class, are to be randomly selected to travel to Washington, D.C. John is in a class of 18 students, and Peter is in another class of 20 students. Find the probability that both John and Peter will be selected.

Example 3 Michelle has 6 quarters and 4 dimes in her pocket. Darryl has 2 nickels, 1 quarter, and 5 pennies. Find the probability that Michelle selects one dime and Darryl one penny.

Example 4 Contestants for a game show are randomly selected from 2 groups. If Sandy is from a group of 8 people and Miles from a group of 14 people, find the probability that both will be selected.
