2 ALL ABOUT THE NOUNS I will say a specific noun form (like proper) and toss the ball to another person. The next person has four seconds to give a proper noun. If the person is wrong or doesn’t answer fast enough, that person will sit down. If that person gets it correct, he or she will pass the ball to another student who will have to give an additional noun. This will continue until two people are left standing. *I may call out a different noun form during the game– be ready!

What kind of relationship does Casey have with the fans? 2. What can you infer from the poem about the importance of baseball in Mudville? Explain your answer. 3. How does the feeling or tone of the poem in different sections reflect the flow of the plot? 4. How does Casey’s attitude change during the poem? 5. Does the suspense in the poem build steadily or rise and fall? Explain. 6. Do you think the poem offers a realistic view of sports heroes? Why or why not?

9 EXIT TICKET Why do you think the author decided to write this story as a poem instead of in prose? Explain how the effect might be different if the same events were described in a short story.
