The 2 nd SCECAL module for the Fermilab beam test - tentative idea - S. Uozumi (Shinshu) Jun-20 2007 GLDCAL meeting Next beam test will be held likely in June-July 2008 at Fermilab meson test beam line.

Goals of the FNAL beam test Establish the Scintillator-ECAL –Evaluate all the necessary performances using various beams ( ,K,e,  ….) with wider energy range –Make the SCECAL ready for the engineering design Combined test with the Analog HCAL Test  0 -> 2  reconstruction Measure hadron shower to test simulation model –Precise hadron simulation is necessary to study PFA –Maybe difficult with our small module, but try as much as possible (?) Any others ?

The 2 nd SCECAL module (At least) 4 times larger than the DESY BT module. (Still need simulation study to determine the module size, depth, strip size) Fully adopt extruded scintillators Expect several thousand channels

Gain monitoring system (idea) Reflector & Black sheets Acrylic bar Clear fibres UV LED CMB CANbus control PC Need extensive R&D ! Light distributor material Number of necessary LEDs Pickup noise Optical cross-talk through acrylic bar Light yield variation, timing CANbus operation Distribute LED light pulse to all the strips and monitor the gain by watching 1 p.e. peak position

Gain monitoring system (cont’d) Adopt CMB (Calibration Monitoring Board) produced in Prague It is Developed for AHCAL system and currently being used The CMB can operate 12 LEDs per a board Pulse rise time ~ 2 ns Can perform amplitude scan CANbus operation Now asking Ivo (Prague) to give one board for our test.

Beam test related Jobs for mid-term Collect information about FNAL beam test facility (always) Detector optimization using Jupiter simulation (always) Beam test simulation based on Mokka framework (~fall) –Simulate SCECAL performance –  0 reconstruction test Establish extruded scintillator (within this year) –Perform a beam test in November at KEK? R&D of MPPC readout cable (~fall) Mechanical design and test of the entire module construction (within this year) Establish gain and temperature monitoring system (this year) –Test LED light distribution system with acryl bar and fibres –Mechanical assembly of the system –Learn CANbus operation MPPC mass measurement (system construction in this year) Feedbacks from the DESY beam test analysis (ASAP) Need powerful volunteers !

Appendix Mokka is now installed on jlclogin2:/home/uozumis/ilcsoft/myinstall/Mokka If you would like to run it, type following commands: source /home/uozumis/ilcsoft/myinstall/Mokka/bin/setup_mokka.sh /home/uozumis/ilcsoft/myinstall/Mokka/bin/Mokka your_steering_file.steer
