What will you do with Jesus?

What did Peter do with him? Matt. 26:69-75

Warming at the Fire of the devil!

Where was Peter sitting? He was sitting out in the courtyard.. 1. A servant girl came to him. “You also were with Jesus of Galilee,” she said. Matt. 26:70 But he denied it before them all. “I don’t know what you’re talking about”, He said.

2. v.71 Then he went out to the gateway, where another girl saw him and said to the people there, “This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.” v.72 He denied it with an oath: “I don’t know the man!”

3. v.73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely You are one of them, for your accent gives you away.” v.74 Then he began to call down curses on himself and he sore to them, “I don’t know the man!” Immediately the rooster crowed.

v. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “ Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he (Peter) went outside and wept bitterly.

Peter was afraid. He saw the beating that Jesus was having to go through. He sees the crowd in an uproar screaming for a cruxifixion and Peter get’s scared. He doesn’t want people to know he has been by Jesus’ side for the last 3 years. He might be thinking, “What if they find out? Will they kill me too?”

This was so unusual for Peter:.In Matt. 14, When Christ walked on water, Peter was the disciple that was brave enough to step out of the boat.”.In Matt. 16:13, when Christ asked his disciples “Who do people say the Son of Man is? “ Peter is the first disciple to speak Up to claim Christ as the Son of the living God.

.In John 13, when Christ washed his disciples feet, Peter was the first disciple to speak up and refuse to let Christ wash his feet. After Jesus told him that if he (Jesus ) did not wash his feet, he had no part in Christ’s ministry Peter then wanted Jesus to wash him all Over!

.In John 18, Peter was bold all the way up to the arrest of Jesus. It is Peter that draws his sword to defend Christ and he cuts the ear off one of the soldiers..Peter was bold for the Lord over and over again. He made bold statements to Christ that he would gladly die for him, yet when it finally came to making that choice, Peter denied him.

I guess we could say Peter did what he thought he had to do to save his own life..He went out and wept bitterly. At least he realized how weak of a follower he really was, and instead of quitting, giving up and going home, he shows repentance!

After messing up, he could. Peter could have said: Well, that’s it. I didn’t stand up for the Lord. I am a Miserable disciple. I know the Lord cannot Use me any more..If Peter had done that…thousands of people would not have been saved…

Peter Changed…He turned back to Jesus, not away from Him!.His weakness led him to his greatness..Peter realized his actions..Peter wept. He wept bitterly. He was hurting…he had done the very thing That he said he would not do.

Peter is asked 3 times John 21, Peter is asked 3 times by the Lord. Do you have Agape love for Jesus? 1. Do you love me? Peter’s answer: “Yes, Lord, you know that I phileo you 2. Do you love me? 3. Do you love me?

After the denial, we see Peter.1. Peter goes back to the disciples. They are gathered in the upper room. 2. Then after Christ’s resurrection, Christ appeared to them. Peter is there. Jesus held out his hands For them to see, and he showed them his side. 3. They were filled with joy when they saw their Lord.

Peter preaches the First Gospel Sermon after the Resurrection Acts 2 What did he preach?

Peter Goes in to Gentiles and preaches to them Acts 10

Peter writes by inspiration I Peter and 2 Peter

Peter’s death Peter denied the Lord, yet he showed His devotion to Jesus by giving the rest Of his life to serving His King. He was a man who sinned. He was a man who made mistakes. But he was a chosen man by Christ and left a great example for all humanity

Where are we sitting today?.In a rocking chair, going no where? Feeling sorrow for ourselves that we can’t run and do what the world enjoys? The church means little or nothing to us? The gospel is watered down, and we want more laughter, fun and frolic in our assemblies. Man has seen a lot of changes, but are they for the better?

God is calling us all to serve Him. Are you a Christian? If not, why not? Time…what will you do with Jesus?

The Lord willing, you will have 5 opportunities this week VBS What will you do with them?

When will you serve the Lord?

What will you do with Jesus?
